How many steps do you do?

Updated: Aug 10, 2020

Firstly Happy belated Easter to you all.

I hope the Easter bunny was good to you and you indulged in some chocolate, because I certainly did :).

So... every day our TeamEMP members are set daily tasks/habits to achieve in our community group and yesterday I set a challenge of hitting 20,000 steps.

Now, I knew this wasn't going to be easy, being a public holiday with most people quarantined and unable to do a lot, but then I thought well we can still get outdoors and walk so maybe it won't be too hard.

Well it certainly wasn't easy, and I will admit I did fail (not without trying though) and underestimated how many actual steps 20,000 is, which was my intentions for our members to see how much more we could/should be moving.

Over the day I actually walked closed to 14km which is a lot of walking, yet still only hit 17,000 steps (maybe I need to shorten my strides hahah).

But it certainly is a wake up call, as most people struggle to even hit 10,000 steps on a day to day basis and when you look at the obesity rate in the world right now there certainly is a major correlation between the two. NEAT (non exercise activity thermogenesis) is actually a big percentage of the amount of calories we burn each day, hence why movement is key for long term health and body composition.

So if I can give you one tip, it would be to start taking note of how much you are actually moving each day and set yourself a daily goal as we do for all our Teamemp members each day!!

And if need that accountability and support to do so, reach out and we will be more than happy to have you apart of our team !!

Coach Luke
